Conceptually, "Les nuits de Gethsémani" explores three pictures of a man stepping into the night, with bare feet, on the Mount of Olives. The three movements showcase a staggering ability to convey emotion through the power of composition, as elements of myth, sin, death, sun, and blood are juxtaposed to form an engrossing whole. Précieux Sang is interested in religious sentiment, tragedy, and abjection. Rejecting the more widespread fascination of their contemporaries with the occult, Précieux Sang is more interested in the exoteric aspect of religious experience: the Sacred rather than the secret. Considering that this is the band's first release, there is an impressive depth to the songwriting on display, with each track flowing effortlessly from passages of high-paced, frenetic yet never out of control chord based riffing to gargantuan mid-tempo sections as well as calmer, meditative sections, with a highly emotive vocal performance perfectly complimenting the glorious melodic shifts in the guitars throughout.
The production of "Les nuits de Gethsémani" is of particular note, with mixing and mastering duties handled by Xavier Tehom in March 2021 in Montréal, these songs sound incredibly clear and dynamic, without losing the passion and essence of the performances in plastic studio trickery. The sonic force on display in these three tracks is something to behold, offering a rich texture that showcases these three songs in a way complimenting the music and certainly warranting repeated listens

***ON LIMITED COLORED VINYL!!! Edmontonian death merchants Begrime Exemious are back with a devastating long-player on the mighty Dark Descent Records. Rotting In The Aftermath marks the band’s fourth album, all of which were released through the Colorado label.
The band's tireless work ethic is renowned throughout the scene, with annual releases the order of the day. Yet six years have passed since 2016’s The Enslavement Conquest’—just what took them so long?!
“Following the release of The Enslavement Conquest in 2016, we started to write music for its follow up. We took our time over the next couple years writing the songs, as we were still supporting the last album on the road with tours across the US and Canada,” reveals vocalist / guitarist Derek Orthner. “Naturally, the new songs made their way into our set lists, and by 2018, we attempted to record. This session was aborted in favor of further refinement, as we felt these songs could benefit from faster tempos and even lower tunings in some cases. Finally, in 2019, we recorded the nine tracks of what would become our fourth full length, Rotting In The Aftermath. We pushed ourselves deeper into the realms of death metal, and as such, we feel that [this album] is the best representation of what Begrime Exemious is all about. It was truly forged on the road, and takes our brand of filth to the next level of apocalyptic devastation.”

"Macabre Damp" is the first FONSADERA manifesto (formerly known as EYÁVBËG) and a damning assault or purge in the homeland. Subersive and raw Black Metal from the land of clandestine graves with the sole desire to see columns of smoke burning without stopping! Death to corrupt, crude and completely catholicized politics! Death to the dissidents of the black flame! We all burn to the end.

Switzerland's Tardigrada have emerged as one of the leading purveyors of truly immersive, atmospheric extreme metal music. With members based in Basel and Zürich, the band's demo "Widrstand" provides a glimpse into the sonic seeds that would fully grow into their full-length releases.
On "Widrstand", Tardigrada presents a rawer sound that is no less capable of gripping listeners with its keen sense for melody than the band's more accomplished later works. Due to "Widrstand" no longer being available in its original, strictly limited release run, it is long overdue for a re-release. For this occasion, it will feature an additional song entitled "Leere" (which translates to "Emptiness").
Carefully re-mastered by Christoph Brandes of Iguana Studios, allowing for listeners to experience them in a new light, enhancing their original soundscape while retaining the original recordings' essence.
The unlikely origins of the Costa Rica and German based band UMBRA CONSCIENTIA, return with their second album; Nigredine Mundi, yet again released by Terratur Possessions.
In 2019 the band came out of the blue and blew people away with their relentless, punishing debut; Yellowing of the Lunar Consciousness. With hints to bands like FUNERAL MIST and KATHARSIS, you should know what to expect. The band swiftly gained a following with superb feedback all around, and now, two years later, it's time for a follow up.
What to expect? The same, yet I would dare say this album is toned down a smidge in terms of speed, and thus a tad heavier than its predecessor.
The band has yet again delivered an agressive, heavy, hard hitting, pitch Black Metal album and there's no holding back.
The band will play their debut gig at the notorious BEYOND THE GATES Festival in Norway this year (2022).
USBM in the vein of Isvind, Helheim and Arckanum. Despite this simple description, "II" is a massive and memorable work that goes way beyond the mentioned influences and displays an ancient character of its own. Absolutely recommended.

Ostots returns with Madarikazioa (The Curse), taking the Ostots sound to a new level. Following the same path of Lainoak Estaltzen Duena & Hilda Jaio tracks (from the split LP with Gaua), this record displays an ever growing musicianship, with denser compositions and a more powerful sound, but maintaining the core essence of Ostots sound and soul. Dark atmospheric Black Metal, evoking old fears, storms and the night...

Ruadh's sophomore album contains six tracks of epic, Scottish Atmospheric Black Metal with Folk elements that are massive in both scope and scale, taking you through the Iron Ages in Scotland. It also explores the history and mythology of the people of Scotland, conveying both sorrow and uplifting, almost heroic tones.
‘The Rock of the Clyde’ is an evolution from their debut album ‘Sovereign’. It has a much more melodic feel, yet has more visceral elements too.
Ruadh mastermind Tom Perrett, hailing from Rutherglen (also known as the red glen) in the central belt of Scotland, looks to forge a sound akin to the classics he has always enjoyed, such as Bathory, Burzum, Windir and Emperor. However, Ruadh’s sound will also appeal to fans of newer Atmospheric Black Metal bands such as Saor, Winterfylleth and Panopticon.
Hammerheart Records, 180g black vinyl, insert, Faithfully replicated from the original, still containing the old school feeling; Finally available again: the much sought after debut mini-LP by Swedish Therion. Pure old school Death Metal recorded in 1989 at the legendary Sunlight Studio. ?Time Shall Tell? is the ultimate expression of Therion?s Death Metal relevance and this recording is as brutal, sinister and abstract as anything from the early Swedish Death Metal scene. While their Stockholm contemporaries were busy pounding out punk-based riffs, Therion sounded like they were orbiting the gravitational field of a supernatural vortex. The band?s Hellhammer/Celtic Frost influences have been over-matched by their Possessed and Morbid Angel influences, to great effect. This was the band?s first experience in the legendary Studio Sunlight. ?Time Shall Tell? was recorded in December 1989, almost exactly the same time as ?Left Hand Path?. Therion were never derivative of Nihilist/Entombed, the best parallel is with Grotesque, who recorded (part of) their ?Incantation? EP in the same studio a few months later. Both bands had an evil, twisted sound with lots of tempo changes and some keyboards. Therion never sounded as wild or extreme as Grotesque, but they were heavier and more disciplined. Both EP?s feel like they?re tapping into an alternative vision of early Scandinavian Death Metal. These four songs are the most evolved, complex compositions the band had made until that point. In any case, they sound better, noisier and more abrasive in their original form. Skogsberg got it right on his first attempt. The great thing about music like this is its unpredictability. Death Metal as disorientating and dark as this is a rare beast. Rarely does a band express themselves in ways that resemble what Therion did here. ?Time Shall Tell? is pure in freedom of expression, and thus stands the test of time.
