Founded back in 2007, founders David Csicsely and Clayton Cushman have been on a relentless quest, blending heavy sounds with ancient sagas. Initially a dynamic duo, Csicsely and Cushman crafted five albums before expanding their lineup. In 2016, with the release of "Skadi" under Eisenwald Records, Dave Borrusch and Justin Siegler became integral members. However, after the acclaimed release of "Eventide" in 2021, the band bid farewell to Siegler, welcoming Jeremy Winters as the new guitar virtuoso.
"Nature's Cadence," slated for release in 2024 via Eisenwald, marks the powerful return of The Flight of Sleipnir. While not strictly a concept album, it weaves themes of resilience against the elements and reverence for nature's beauty. Recorded predominantly at their studio in Arvada, Colorado, with additional touches in Clay's home studio and World Famous Studios, the album's sonic landscape was carefully sculpted by the local Pete de Boer, renowned for his attention to detail and finesse.
Thematically rich deliving into the complexities of human experience. From the primal violence of old Norse sagas to the existential musings on control and the pursuit of discovery, each track resonates with a deep and multilayered meaning. Drawing inspiration from ancient texts and personal introspection, The Flight of Sleipnir crafted a timeless narrative throught out the new record.

Agalloch's 'The Mantle' isn't just a great and influential album; it's a transformative journey, one that showed the band breaking away from their early direction in favor of its intricate blend of atmospheric metal mixed with an unheard amount of folk, and post-rock canvas.
Originally released in 2002, and met with surprise and mixed emotions, it continues to captivate listeners with its atmospheric depth and emotional resonance decades later. One could say, there is no other album like this, none other whose artwork and imagery are so intertwined, every image resonates so well with the music, it feels almost impeccable, as if pictures could tell the songs by themselves.
The album allows the nostalgic warmth many crave, yet simultaneously creates a contemporary setting with cold and haunting silver imagery: nature's majestic realm meets post-modern bitterness.
From the haunting melodies of "In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion" to the almost hypnotic rhythms of "I Am the Wooden Doors," the album's sonic palette is as diverse as the landscapes it evokes. Each track on "The Mantle" unfolds like a chapter in a dark, enchanting journey. Agalloch's signature blend of atmospheric (black) metal, deep folk instrumentation, and poetic lyricism creates a sense of introspection, an ethereal post-urban panorama.
Ultimately, 'The Mantle' isn't just an album to be listened to; it's another experience to be felt. For fans of atmospheric & profound music, this album remains utterly relevant... and utterly essential.

AFSKY's second album "Ofte Jeg drømmer mig død" is a journey through the cultural history of Denmark, focusing on poems and lyrics by well-known and lesser-known Danish writers such as H.C. Andersen, Emil Aarestrup and others - reflections on the eternal misery in the age of industrialization, when people were considered "human material", trapped in everyday life and forced to work hard for the upper class until death.
To express this, a mixture of icy, nordic black metal with folk and doom elements is conjured up by Afsky, crowned by the melancholic and emotional interpretation and performance.
On "Ofte Jeg Drømmer Mig Død" AFSKY have managed to combine timeless poetry of the 19th century with their own timeless music - which draws attention to the injustices in today's world and even shows frightening parallels.

The debut album of AFSKY is a cold atmospheric representative that can be clearly assigned to the DSBM genre. The doomy folk and classical music elements already appear here and there, such as the guest contribution of Amalie Bruun (Myrkur) on the nykelharpa and clean vocals - but the raw coldness is most present here.
Written at a time of frustration, sadness and dark emotions, the lyrics lead to a haunting and harrowing exploration of the various shades of suffering, but also reflect the magnificence of nature - as eternal inspiration and shelter.
This album expresses exactly what Afsky and Sorg stand for namely: disgust and sadness. The cradle and the cornerstone that bear all the hallmarks of Afsky in their original and pristine sound.

Eisenwald is pleased to present listeners with a special sonic indulgence, drawn from the nether realms by Switzerland's Ophanim in the form of "Tämpelskläng".
An entity emerging from what can now only be described as the formidable Helvetic Underground Committee, Ophanim has arisen from utter obscurity to provide transcendental sounds of total immersion.
"Tämpelskläng" can best be described as ethereal. The band manages to create celestial atmospheres that are simultaneously airy and incredibly captivating, retaining the listener's attention throughout the entire experience. The music emanates strongly psychedelic characteristics as well, the strength of which is likely drawn from the ancient scriptures Ophanim is inspired by. These aspects are further elevated by an unintrusive production, a result of Ophanim's meticulous craft.

They Came From Visions from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was formed in 2019 in order to create raw and twisted music that conjures the visions of shimmering mist over ancient swamps, of moonlight painting the earth in surreal colours, of unsettling hum and chitter of nocturnal insects, of countless dangers and wonders of a world shrouded in darkness. The three nameless individuals behind the group draw inspiration from bands such as Wiegedood and Yellow Eyes as well es from folk-horror-movies and -games – from the classics released in the 70s and also from modern favorites such as „The Witch“ and „Midsommar“.
„The Twilight Robes" continues that theme while raw and varied riffs, spanning the range from mournful to triumphant, weave a bleak tapestry of struggle, danger, mystery, and violence. The record is dedicated to exploring various facets of the commonfolk's struggle and suffering in dangerous and mysterious times: Human-sacrifice-rituals, nocturnal horrors, powerlessness, and surrender in the face of overwhelming natural and supernatural forces belong to the lyrical themes explored here. Rather than leaning on any particular culture's specific folklore, the band references humanity's shared feeling of weakness and fear before the unknown. „The Twilight Robes“ is a testament to the band's dedication to their craft and their desire to tell stories that speak to the human experience.
The recording process was a unique yet frightening experience for the band, as it took place during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Therefore, the band members imbued their feelings of fear, frustration, and anger into the music to cope with the absurd horror of the situation. The album was fully self-produced by the band to preserve the integrity of the composer's vision, and all instruments were recorded at home - with the exception of the vocals, which were recorded at a rehearsal studio. The album was mixed by the guitarist who plays under the pseudonym Voice of Gloom and mastered by bassist Voice of the Deep. The artwork was created by Ukrainian artist Mykhailo Skop (also known as Neivanmade).
Switzerland's practitioners of alchemical madness return with their sophomore full-length, "Blut, Milch und Thränen", presenting a concoction of truly mesmerizing sonic movements.
The music contained on "Blut, Milch und Thränen" was recorded somewhat unconventionally as two separate tracks, which were subdivided into several movements to correspond with the album's gripping narrative. With regard to this narrative, Kvelgeyst recounts the tale of an alchemist, beset by visions that leads him to search for an adept who in turn shall serve as the victim in a sinister ritual, hoping to achieve unio mystica. Initially, he is pleased, as he discovers an adept soon enough in the gutters. Regrettably for him, however, he is finally confronted with the realization that he has fatally misinterpreted his visions, and it is not he who sacrifices the adept in his pursuit of revelation, but rather he must serve as the sacrificial lamb in ritual slaughter, thus enabling the adept to achieve unio mystica. This, in turn, drives the adept into utter madness, rendering him free of all his senses and forcing him to the gutters from whence he emerged.
Suffering can be a borderline experience, opening doors to the divine. Canadian black-metal-outfit GIVRE has dedicated its fourth album to this concept. On “Le Cloître” (engl. “The Cloister”) the band continues its exploration of the atoning side of pain and the austere aspects of faith through music that goes all the way from elegiac elegance to disturbing outbursts.
This time, the lyrics are taken from the hagiographies of six saint women and explores freely their relation to god through suffering, from the symbolic poetry of Hildegard Von Bingen (1098-1179) to the disturbing and factual depictions of Marthe Robin (1902-1981). Musically, this album explores a variety of extreme genres while maintaining a suffocating and tormented Black Metal atmosphere.

Iskandr’s latest offering “Spiritus Sylvestris” appears to be a radical statement in both content and form. Signifying a departure from the black metal roots of the project, the psychedelic folk doom of the new album builds upon the directions of where both “Vergezicht” and “Glas” were already moving towards. “Spiritus Sylvestris” is cinematic in scope: majestic and threatening in its aura of sublime grandeur. The Latin title translates to “spirit of the wild” and also refers to the early modern alchemical name for carbon dioxide –when the spirit of the wilderness releases into the aether through the burning of wood and charcoal. The songs tell impressionistic stories of natural elements personified; when powerful spirits that linger in the earth are stirred, those elemental forces will be forced to haunt our world. In an era of irreversible damage to our planet and anthropogenic climate change, Iskandr aims to offer funeral dirges for the world that we have already lost.
“Spiritus Sylvestris” embraces a limitless approach to translate this vision into musical form. Employing musical elements from a broad array of genres; easily moving between the martial stomp of early Laibach and the ethereal melodics of Dead Can Dance. Recorded and mixed by the legendary Pieter Kloos (The Devil’s Blood, Motorpsycho) at The Void Studio in Eindhoven, the new Iskandr record has broadened the scope and sound of the project beyond any confines, resulting in the most open soundscapes from Iskandrto date. The heavy baritone guitar riffs that form the backbone of the record provide a pitch-black canvas in which huge percussive rhythms and psychedelic layers of Hammond organ, Mellotron as well as subtle acoustics move in and out of focus. If this world is at an end it deserves a requiem for that what is lost.

„Freiweitn“ is the third full-length record by Austrian Melodic Death Metal outlet VINSTA.
The alpine landscape with its looming mountain backdrops, cold winters, and incomparable beauty is reflected in both the music and lyrics that invite the listeners on an uplifting journey through extraordinary soundscapes that lead toward bleak myths and invoke fantastic netherworlds and vast sceneries.
