Since their formation in 2007, MINENWERFER have pursued a proud 'n' pure vision of black metal idiosyncratically focused on World War I - idiosyncratic, in the sense that the band hail from America but mostly sing in German. What has resulted is a startlingly accomplished canon that has quietly built itself into prolific proportions, with their first album arriving in 2010, followed by albums in 2012 and 2019, and a slew of split releases and EPs in the interim.

That first album, Volkslieder, was a throttling first introduction to MINENWERFER's unique world. Grim and violent but not short on grace, Volkslieder indeed conveyed a folkish element that was by turns tragic and triumphant. And while the duo's foot was firmly on the accelera to here, it never sacrificed strong songwriting, with those icy-hot melodies searing the soul during every successive spin.

OSMOSE PRODUCTIONS have been fans of MINENWERFER for years, and is honored to unleash their once-underground back catalog on the wide scale it so deserves.

Here, MINENWERFER offered the new track “Ace of Aces,” the reworked “Albatros in Flammen,” and two very surprising covers: deep martial industrial artist Striider's “Schüzengraben” and legendary shredder Yngwie J. Malmsteen's early scorcher “I am a Viking.” MINENWERFER for sure have their own identifiable sound, but they're not afraid to push it in strange directions from time to time.

That second album, Nihilistischen, took a moodier turn from MINENWERFER's throttling debut album, Volkslieder. But while a relative expansion of dynamics made their songs sound even more epic, the duo likewise upped the muscle to their attack, arriving at a thicker soundfield than that no-less-considerable predecessor. What results is a work equally steeped in the ugly underground and the yonder battlefields of professionalism.

And yet, where that album saw MINENWERFER inching closer to a palatable professionalism, the 24-minute Kriegserklärung fully bursts through those doors with a startling clarity, setting the stage for the band's grand 2019 full-length, Alpenpäesse.

 Originally recorded in 2010-2011 with various line ups and released as a split with Sturmtiger in 2015. A bit of an odd release as these are the earliest recordings of Minenwerfer as a full band. These 4 tracks are an ode to the gods war.

That third album, Alpenpässe, is arguably MINENWERFER's grandest work yet. While seven years separated it from its full-length predecessor, Nihilistischen, the payoff was well worth it: its six songs in nearly an hour are towers of incomparable might. Everything here is free and flowing, with the bountifully rising/falling melodies pulling at the listener's heartstrings and casting an ominous (and eminently playable) spell that simply needs to be experienced to be believed. This is MINENWERFER at their most powerful and poignant.
