t’s about time to reveal all the faces of the night! Moonlight Sorcery will release their first full-length album entitled Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle on September 29th. Expect nothing but an ice cold blizzard that will conquer your castles, crumble your towers and withhold the daylight forever!
Horned Lord Of The Thorned Castle is a perfect combination of the atmosphere from Piercing Through the Frozen Eternity and the rawness of Nightwind: The Conqueror from the Stars, the band’s two EPs released in 2022 and early 2023.
Moonlight Sorcery wants to raise the bar, and these new nine songs have even more melodic hooks and shreddy guitar work. Frozen synth walls further develop the Finnish trio’s unique sound, a vibe you cannot find in any other black metal record.
Horned Lord Of The Thorned Castle follows a specific narrative, and its nine compositions tell a single tale, with every song starting where the previous one left off. “Basically, our debut could be a single 44-minute song”, the band said. Yet, the pleasure of learning such a tale is yours. Prepare, wanderer, to meet the Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle!
Mixed and mastered at Unisound by legendary producer and musician Dan Swanö

Almost four years after the acclaimed Vsesvit, Ukrainian one-man atmospheric black metal band Severoth is back with a new studio album. Multi-instrumentalist Illia Rafalskyi took some time to gather his thoughts and introduce his latest work as follows.
“Originally, By the Way of Light was intended as the spiritual successor for Vsesvit. I started working right after Vsesvit was finished, I wanted to create something powerful, energetic but yet light and bright. Something which will inspire people to be better versions of themselves. And to remember that there is always hope.
Music was mostly composed and recorded at my home studio in Dnipro, Ukraine. Actively crafted from 2021 up until 23th february of 2022. And intended to be released somewhere in 2022. But on the 24th of February my family and I woke up at 4 am from the sounds of distant explosions… That is when the Russian invasive full-scale war against Ukraine started. And our lives changed forever…
For a full year since then I haven’t created a single note for this album and my mind was far from music, with exception of the second song, “Sons Of Steel Will”, for which I wrote lyrics in September 2022, inspired by the events of that period.
Later in 2023, after more than a year of ongoing war we moved to a safer place and I was able to finish the album. So, I’ve spent around half a year working and re-working the material. In the summer 2023 drums and missing vocals were recorded. Music and lyrics I wrote myself. Lyrics are in Ukrainian, but translations in English are featured in the booklet. The cover art and all inner illustrations were done by my wife Julia (UD).
I’m glad I have had the opportunity to finally finish this album and share it with the world.”

Italian long-standing black metal pioneers Funeral Oration are back with their third album. Originally formed in 1989 in Taranto, Apulia, the band released their debut album Sursum Luna in 1996 on Avantgarde Music before dissolving the following year. Twenty years later, in 2017, guitarist and keyboardist Luca La Cara and singer and lyricist The Old Nick brought Funeral Oration back from the dead to release their sophomore album Eliphas Love in 2019, again via Avantgarde Music.
Five years have passed already, and the time has come for a new chapter. Antropomorte sees La Cara and The Old Nick banding with bassist Iblis (Handful Of Hate) and drummer David Folchitto (Stormlord and many others) to craft seven hymns of old-style, essential black metal from the ‘90s. As Funeral Oration describes it, Antropomorte is “a desperate litany of decadence and mystical delirium. Marcia funebre per il genere umano.”
Once again we deal with poetry, occultism and antichristian sentiment thanks to lyrics directly inspired when not directly translated from poets and artists from different ages. “Amor Obsessio” is a direct translation made by The Old Nick from ”La morte embaumée” by M. Rollinat (1883), “Cloaca Cattolica” (“Catholic Sewer”) is inspired by true events occurred in Varazze in 1907, “Il Serpente Della Genesi” (“Serpent from the Genesis”) is another translation from “Lilith” by R. de Gourmont (1892) and so is “Notturno Sepolcrale”, translated from “Ténèbres” by A. Samain (1895). “Stregheria”, on the other hand, is a direct quotation of Salvator Rosa’s “La strega”, from 1646.

Kanonenfieber's debut Menschenmühle has been one of the self-produced highlights of early 2021. With its mature songwriting and uncommon thematic approach, the album is intended to commemorate the countless victims of World War I.
Men were thrown into a differing reality where only survival would count. Death, fear and hunger as a steady companion in the waist-deep trenches filled with mud. One order transferred people into cannon fodder in the human mill - World War I. The lyrical background of Menschenmühle is based on factual reports, letters and other documents from the surviving and deceased soldiers. The album was written, recorded and produced by Kanonenfieber from September 2020 to January 2021 in the Noisebringer studio
Malist is a one-man black metal band formed in 2017 and hailing from Moscow, Russia. In only six years, talented multi-instrumentalist Ov Frost released four full-length studio albums, keeping an unrelenting pace.
Of Scorched Earth is the fifth record by Malist, which also marks the beginning of their collaboration with Avantgarde Music. In the words of its mastermind, “Of Scorched Earth tells a tale of mankind, and why it shall inevitably die in nature's grasp. The ships of those seeking conquest shall be forever buried in the sands of time. Only the few blessed by the primal deities shall be granted passage through the gates of apocalypse”.
Malist signature formula of atmospheric yet riff-driven black metal is brought back with the addition of a few elements of symphony and post-metal into the picture.
Originally included in this limited package of the album, we got here a few leftover copies of the bonus CD itself:
CDr featuring an instrumental versions of the album, comes in printed cardboard sleeve.
Double black vinyl 180 grams / white labels / test pressing

Post-black metal duo Olhava is back with Sacrifice, a new studio record, almost two years after the release of their acclaimed album Reborn.
Clocking in at the megalithic length of eighty-six minutes, Sacrifice is a collection of long, mesmerizing and melancholic anthems for longing souls which will carve deep into the feelings of any blackgaze fan.
As Olhava themselves describe it, “Sacrifice is the necessary step for one to be Reborn. It’s the ultimate point of no return. Everything one used to value will turn to ash and be forgotten. For only by stripping ourselves of everything we know and have can we truly separate our Self from our Ego. Only by burning ourselves can we enjoy peace among stars. But the end is also the beginning. Beginning of new values, a new self built from dust”.
Finally soon back in stock, this time in digipak CD format with a 16 pages booklet

Sgàile is the artistic endeavour of Scottish multi-instrumentalist Tony Dunn, of which Avantgarde Music released the overlooked, yet greatly crafted debut Ideals & Morality in december 2021. Two years later, the talented Scot is back with his sophomore opus, Traverse The Bealach, which he describes as follows.
“When I started the Sgàile project in 2018, and through the writing and recording of Ideals & Morality, I wasn’t sure that anyone would take to the style, or even care. This time around I knew I had a small audience that enjoyed what I was doing so I felt free to create from pure instinct.
With that freedom came focus and direction, which led me to create a concept album, a venture that I had never previously attempted. What this did was create a driven narrative that brought a maturity to the Sgàile sound.
Through the recording process, there was a feeling of refinement, taking the lessons I learned from Ideals & Morality and carefully honing them to improve the overall production. Working with Mike Lamb (Sojourner, Remina) for a second time really helped to pin down the sonic quality that I was looking for.
The story of Traverse The Bealach is that of a nomadic traveller in post-apocalyptic Scotland, trying to figure out his fate and facing the elements while travelling north, battling inner demons along the way. Thematically, the inspiration came from the events of the pandemic, our ongoing battle with climate change, and my fascination with long distance trekking.”

The Burning Circle and Then Dust is Lycia’s fourth studio recording, originally released on double CD via Projekt Records in 1995. Save for a small CD re-release in 2006 by Silber Records, the album has never been reissued since. It is hence with great pride that here at Avantgarde Music we officially announce a new edition of one of Lycia’s masterworks from the ‘90s, due out on 2CD as well as triple LP, making this the first Burning Circle vinyl release ever.
Mike VanPortfleet himself commented: “After several years of doing more synth oriented material I wanted a return to my guitar roots (in particular English post punk and 4AD). Lycia started as a guitar based band and I wanted to reaffirm that with disc one, which was originally going to be the release. I was also listening to a lot of shoegaze then, which inspired a return of making the guitars, as opposed to the synths, the focal point of the atmospherics.”.
Many things have been said about the album along the last twentyeight years, and the band chose the following to describe the record.
Per Projekt.com. - The Burning Circle And Then Dust was a groundbreaking point in Lycia’s career. It marked a shift from more atmospheric music towards song-oriented music with tracks like “Pray” & “Slip Away.” It marked the first collaborations between Mike VanPortfleet & Lycia members David Galas & Tara Vanflower. It marked the transformation of Lycia into a honed out live touring machine.
Per Pandamonium Magazine via Projekt.com. - Moving back into more formal song structures, Burning Circle returns to true song-writing, and places equal emphasis on guitar as the electronics. However, the music is as intense and powerful as ever, conjuring up vast vistas of soundscapes which are captured in delicate webs of song and structure. Songs like “Pray” are positively dance friendly, while others find Lycia moving towards the fertile ground of darkpop. breathtaking in scope and beauty, exultant in vision, exhilarating in sensory delight. Lycia have arrived.
Per Ned Raggett of AllMusic - a high point of American dark rock and the band's greatest and most ambitious work.

Russian blackgaze duo Olhava is back with their new studio album. Frozen Blooom is the natural follow-up to self-titled Olhava (2019) and Ladoga (2020), and integrates some dronescapes the band experimented on Never Leave Me Alone (2020), the drone version of their debut.
Multi-instrumentalist Andrey Novozhilov and drummer Timur Yusupov describe their new journey with words of thoughtful contemplation: “When winter is just starting to fade and give some space to the first steps of spring… When life starts to reappear and the very early flowers peek through the thawing soil, a sudden drop of the temperature can leave them petrified and frozen back again, punished by the “Queen of Fields”. This statuesque dead beauty, being infinitely alive and dead at the same time is the main metaphor of this album. Frozen Bloom is about unfulfilled dreams. About how we sacrifice everything today for some abstract “tomorrow”, which may never come. But tomorrow and yesterday don’t exist – only this very moment of static contemplation is real”.
Frozen Bloom is Olhava’s fourth opus in three years, and here the duo took some different routes compositionally. Two of the four tracks are traditionally storm-like blackgaze passages, while the other two are leaning towards a more meditative drone experience. The album also features A. Lunn, who kindly agreed to record an electric guitar solo as well as acoustic parts and choral parts on “Frozen Bloom I”.
Frozen Bloom was recorded at Olhava home studios, as well as at the local rehearsal space. Mikhail Kurochkin took care of mixing and mastering.
