Over the course of its seventeen-year career, Deströyer 666 has managed to release a mere four full-length albums. However, the band has released EPs with somewhat more regularity. Unfortunately, the bulk of these recordings were issued only on vinyl and in limited quantities. As is often the case, these releases quickly became unavailable to anyone not willing to get ass-raped on eBay. In 2010, Deströyer 666 threw fans a bone and released a compilation of the following EPs: 1998’s Satanic Speed Metal, 2000’s King of Kings/Lord of the Wild, 2002’s Of Wolves Women and War and 2010’s See You in Hell, entitled To the Devil His Due… on limited edition vinyl. Thanks for nothing.
Ah, but despair not, gentle reader: As you have probably guessed, I am not reviewing a release from 2010. The Hell's Headbangers label will, in a few weeks from the time of this writing, release To the Devil His Due on glorious, hiss-free, car-stereo-compatible compact disc. Now let’s be honest: If you are a die-hard Deströyer 666 fan like me, one that has no taste for either vinyl or ass-rape, you probably downloaded most of these songs long ago. This release gives you the chance to throw K.K. and the boys a few bucks and enjoy these songs guilt-free and with better sound quality. If, by chance, you have not heard any of these songs before, To the Devil His Due will serve as a sort of long-lost Deströyer 666 album.
The nine songs that make up To the Devil his Due span a great swath of Deströyer 666’s career and as such reflect the changes to and development of the band’s sound during that time. “Satanic Speed Metal” is a simplistic, bare-knuckled anthem in much the same spirit as “Australian and Antichrist” from Unchain the Wolves. The level of sophistication gradually increases through the chronologically ordered disc, culminating with the two tracks that comprised See You in Hell. These final two songs feature the Deströyer 666’s signature melodic maelstrom combined with some uncharacteristically crunchy riffing, resulting in some the band’s finest work in recent years. The production follows a similar path, with the earlier tracks sounding somewhat raw, and the latest featuring a clear powerful sound that easily eclipses the sonic cluster-fuck that was Defiance.
To put it simply: For any Deströyer 666 fan who doesn’t already own this material, To the Devil His Due is a must. For those unfamiliar with the band, this compilation will definitely give you a good idea of what Deströyer 666 is all about.

Never Stop the Madness - The Roadburn Inferno
A CD / DVD set featuring a peerless performance from the Norwegian industrial Black Metal godfathers (captured live at the esteemed Roadburn Festival 2017).
The pioneering industrial black metal force to emerge in the early 1990s, Mysticum brought to the world a completely unique brand of extreme and Psychedelic discordant Black Metal with insane drum machine patterns and synths.
They were originally signed to Mayhem guitarist Euronymous' Deathlike Silence Productions label. However, this venture was cut short following his death, forcing Mysticum to look elsewhere for the release of their eventual debut album and genre classic, In the Streams of Inferno (1996). A perfect concoction of cold, primitive Black Metal and forward-thinking ideas, Mysticum has had a lasting and profound impact on many since the 1990s, so when the long-talked about follow-up album, Planet Satan, surfaced in 2014, these godfathers of the scene rightly returned to reclaim their throne.
In light of the release, Mysticum decided that a return to the stage would be the next logical step, but it had to be done their way, without compromise; and so, with Herr General Cerastes, Dr Best and Svartravn stood upon three 3 metre high podiums surrounded by screens, with one of the most intense light and sound spectacles witnessed at an Extreme Metal show, Mysticum stunned the crowd into submission.

The wonderfully productive Swiss atmospheric Black Metal band AARA return with urgency to unleash "Triade II: Hemera", their 4th full-length since 2019 and the second chapter of the Melmoth trilogy.
Based upon the 1820 Gothic novel 'Melmoth the Wanderer' by Charles Robert Maturin - and closely connected in style and atmosphere to 2021's initial instalment "Triade I: Eos" - each of the 6 brutally melodic tracks follows the book's chronological mid-point narrative in a dazzling critical examination of theism and scepticism through the medium of top-tier Black Metal.
Although conceptually aligned with part one of the trilogy, "Triade II: Hemera" further-advances the AARA sound into realms of progressive extremity: defined once again by the beauteous lead melodies of composer/guitarist Berg, the record combines a raw violent undertow with subtle rhythmic shifts, left-field riffs/refrains and sublimated vocal savagery - interweaving Christian choirs, the Jewish shofar horn and traditional Indian vocal samples into yet another outstanding offering from an unstoppable young band overflowing with ideas and confidence.
2020 saw the construction of “Apocatastase,” recorded and mixed by George Emanuel (Rotting Christ, Lucifer’s Child) with cover artwork from Khaos Diktator Design, the band’s most ambitious and grandiose project to date. The nakedness of black metal reflected in the mirror of the Devil. The ritual is undressed in the intense sophistication of a journey outside the reality of appearances.
