Trench of Loneliness” is the fourth album of Iterum Nata – a psychedelic folk-rock project by Finnish multi-instrumentalist Jesse Heikkinen. While the music is occasionally upbeat, the general atmosphere has more in common with neo-folk than Jesse’s former band: Hexvessel, for whom he played lead guitar for five years. All aspects of Iterum Nata are profoundly inspired by the pagan worldview, esotericism, and the dark regions of the human mind; the result is something that could easily pass as the bastard offspring of Rome, Tenhi, Of the Wand & the Moon, Linda Perhacs, Espers, and early King Crimson.
“Trench of Loneliness” was recorded at Studio Beyond North Star. With the exception of Hiski Pajuniemi’s appearance on tin whistle, Jesse handled everything – from the composition to tracking and mixing – entirely by himself.
In the remote forests of north-eastern Finland, a primal force has been unleashed. Noitila, translated roughly as ‘Witches’ Bay’, resonates with the ancient echoes of a sacred land where worlds and energies intersect.
Conceived and recorded in a family cabin, employing minimalist equipment and instruments, “Langennut” captures an authenticity that is as powerful as it is pure. The band used an old leather chair as a bass drum, recorded acoustic guitars in the open forest, and wrote lyrics through psychography. No metronome, three microphones, and a passion for the ancient sounds of Ildjarn, Ulver, Isengard, Bathory, Satyricon, Tulus, and Beherit – this is black metal distilled to its essence. Primitive, soulful, and unfiltered.
From the haunted shores of purgatory, a spectral entity cryptically summoned as Nahasheol rose from a cauldron of ominous shade carrying a will of draconian fire. With an inception dating back to last year, the enigma twisted waves under the sign of “Kaaosoth”, a three-song tome bursting with sinister ecstasy and sheer darkness. Now, a new vortex has been carved, a pathway into the realms of timeless chaos is unchained. Enter “Serpens Abyssi”! From the first moments of the belligerent opening “Arcanum Mortuus”, Nahasheol set the pathway to its journey, crafted from the nether regions with a blazing ardor of Black Metal devilry. Whether through fast impending rages of visceral wrath or alluring melodic strokes, a scorching ordeal of unholy riffing engraves a spiritual trail to the Luciferian mysteries with a poisonous drive, destructive electrical compulsions which permeate the whole record, ever hardening and potent, as varied as reeking with the essence of Black Metal tradition.
