Both releases have been remastered for vinyl by Jaime Gomez Arellano as in the long sold-out LP out box set “Trolsk Sortmetall” (2014) and – just as the latest 2019 reissues – come in gatefold sleeves and on 180gr heavy coloured vinyl. The “Bergtatt” 4page LP-Booklet includes a detailed written interview with Ulver’s mastermind Kristoffer Rygg and the “Kveldssanger” 8page LP-Booklet includes sheet notes of the song “Ulvsblakk”. Truly classic Norwegian Black Metal pioneering art!

With a lineup whose roots run deep in the Swedish underground for the past 20+ years, TEHOM mainline that combined experience into a beast of blackened death metal as fresh as it is timeless. With all but a demo prior - also titled The Merciless Light, but released in 2011 and at half the length and in rawer form - on the debut album The Merciless Light, the duo took their time to finesse and fine-tune their sound into one that spans decades without bearing the stench of "retro" tedium. It's proudly and mercilessly DEATH METAL, but blackened in a most barbaric manner, gnarly and gnawing and knowing no respite, but never forgetting the iron-fisted fundamentals of harnessing chaos into streamlined form.

Sporting one of the best monikers around, PUKEWRAITH is a solo-project of Brendan Dean, erstwhile vocalist/guitarist of BLOOD HARVEST titans GUTVOID as well as a handful of other bands that currently includes Fumes, Soul Devourment, Wexler's Prime, Alucard, and Simulcra. Obviously, the man is super-busy as well as -talented, and while those talents run the metallic gamut (with an obvious affection for death metal), PUKEWRAITH is naturally his most traditionally gore-soaked work. The last couple years have seen an EP, split, and single, and finally the band's first full-length, Banquet of Scum.
Their particular brand of dense, doomy death metal makes great neighbors with the likes of Aethyrvorous, Cruciamentum, Encoffination, and Vasaeleth, but often has some great mid-tempo chugging sections similar to Undergang. Switzerland's practitioners of alchemical madness return with their sophomore full-length, "Blut, Milch und Thränen", presenting a concoction of truly mesmerizing sonic movements.
The music contained on "Blut, Milch und Thränen" was recorded somewhat unconventionally as two separate tracks, which were subdivided into several movements to correspond with the album's gripping narrative. With regard to this narrative, Kvelgeyst recounts the tale of an alchemist, beset by visions that leads him to search for an adept who in turn shall serve as the victim in a sinister ritual, hoping to achieve unio mystica. Initially, he is pleased, as he discovers an adept soon enough in the gutters. Regrettably for him, however, he is finally confronted with the realization that he has fatally misinterpreted his visions, and it is not he who sacrifices the adept in his pursuit of revelation, but rather he must serve as the sacrificial lamb in ritual slaughter, thus enabling the adept to achieve unio mystica. This, in turn, drives the adept into utter madness, rendering him free of all his senses and forcing him to the gutters from whence he emerged.
