Since that fateful year of 1991, the brothers Azter and Ustumallagam have perfected an idiosyncratic style of black metal that's positively drenched in the supernatural and remains firm in their conviction of more classicist-styled songwriting. In fact, "black metal" might even be a misnomer; rather, BLACK HEAVY METAL would be more accurate. 

Nevertheless, as the years have gone on and they wisely parcel out their releases, each DENIAL OF GOD record is special, and The Shapeless Mass is no exception. Originally released in early 1996 on the pivotal No Fashion label, DARK FUNERAL's debut album,The Secrets of the Black Arts, was an incredibly powerful first full-length statement. From its iconic cover art on down to the sharp, powerful production by Peter Tägtren at Abyss Studios, it could be easily argued thatThe Secrets of the Black Arts was THE defining record of '96, when black metal was climbing out of its sensational days and etching a new language into the wider metal landscape. DARK FUNERAL were there, armed with an arsenal that was shockingly fast yet still exceptionally memorable. Even with all that blastbeaten aggression, there still existed a wealth of atmosphere to the album, proving that the band were no one-trick ponies.

At long last, OSMOSE will do DARK FUNERAL's back catalog justice with the first of many reissues. This version ofThe Secrets of the Black Arts will come with an entire bonus CD disc including the earlier version of the album recorded with Dan Swanö at Unisound in 1995.

Dusktone is proud to team up with German cult black metal band Baxaxaxa in order to reissue, on cd and tape, a compilation of their early recordings, titled "Spells From The Crypt". It will contain the legendary "Hellfire" demo from 1992, "The Old Evil" demo and the "Devoted to HIM" 7". "Spells From The Crypt" will hit the shelves in late Spring! Expect nothing but pure old-school black metal!

On the ninth full-length with the tell-tale title of "Subject to Change", XASTHUR took a musical leap of faith: Mastermind, multi-instrumentalist, and singer Scott Conner abandoned black metal as a form of musical expression for the time being, and turned to something stylistically rather comparable to acid folk and neofolk instead. Keeping the minimalistic approach of his previous albums, but embarking on a long journey through the dark underbelly of the American dream, Conner created his own brand of dark Americana. XASTHUR were originally conceived by Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. The project started out in the vein of bleak black metal in the tradition of the Nordic second wave. Over the course of nine albums and a host of split-singles, EPs, and occasional demos, XASTHUR's individual, particularly depressive style became highly regarded within the extreme genre. In 2010, Scott announced the end of XASTHUR and returned with an acoustic dark folk project under the banner of NOCTURNAL POISONING. In 2015, the American artist returned to the name XASTHUR, but insisted that his black metal days were over. On his so far latest album, "Inevitably Dark", XASTHUR have partly lifted the self-imposed ban on black metal, simply because Conner simply did like he felt.

Away from the gothic and folk parts of their earlier recordings, Mysterium present themselves in a modern wall of sound on their second album "Soulwards". Heavier, more metal, more direct, but without doing away with the melodic and atmospheric aspects of their debut "The Glowering Facades of Night". With "Soulwards", Mysterium have grown up and establish themselves as a self-conscious and confident Dark Metal band that can rival the genre's greats.
